Your Instructor
Heidi first started teaching French with Tonton the Tortoise back in 2009 in parent and toddler groups. Since then she has expanded to running after school French clubs, teaching in nursery settings, home schooling groups and online Skype classes. She also has a popular Youtube Channel, She has released Tonton’s first French learning picture book and has been blogging about French learning for kids since 2011.
She has contributed regularly to Early Years Educator magazine and is a regular speaker at ‘The Language Show’ London where she presented her ideas and inspiration for ‘A Year of French Fun’ in 2018.
Throughout her different projects she has always received feedback from parents and teachers who are astonished at how much their children can learn with her lessons and just how quickly. Back in 2017 she was inspired started trialling the project ‘A Year of French Fun’ on her blog where she offered a free French lesson plan a week to see if other parents and teachers could achieve the same exciting results with their children …and they could!
The project was so well received that the 'A Year of French Fun' ebook was created that takes away all of the fear and doubt of approaching such a huge topic and just allows parents and teachers to have genuine fun with their children.
Heidi is an English born, university level educated, French speaker and her goal is to help parents and teachers like her who are passionate about languages but struggle to maintain momentum because of the lack of French culture around them. She also speaks Spanish and Mandarin.
Heidi has two young children and after years of trying to find different ways to teach them without them getting bored, she found that play was absolutely the best way for them to engage with the topic and to want to learn more.
Heidi's aim is not to make her children or the children she teaches bilingual, but rather to empower them in their own learning and to show them what they can achieve before the fear and doubt settles in that so many of us experience as adults experience.
In 2017 Heidi released Tonton's first French learning picture book and is currently working on two more titles in the series.
